STORY / CONTEXT

In John 9, Jesus encounters a man who had been blind from birth. While the disciples see his blindness as evidence that something had gone wrong, Jesus sees an opportunity for the works of God to be displayed through his life.

Through this encounter, we see what Jesus does in every life surrendered to Him: He gives us value, gives us a mission, and gives us the way to follow.

SCRIPTURE — John 9:1–7

The disciples ask who sinned that the man was born blind.

Jesus rejects their assumption and declares that God’s works will be displayed through him.

Jesus makes mud, places it on the man’s eyes, and tells him to wash in the Pool of Siloam.

The man obeys and comes back seeing.

1. JESUS GIVES US VALUE

The disciples saw brokenness; Jesus saw a life with purpose.

Our worth isn’t determined by our circumstances, accomplishments, failures, or what others say about us. Our value comes from Christ and His work in our lives.

• Jesus didn’t make a mistake when He made you.
• You aren’t defined by your victories or failures.
• God’s grace is greater than your sin, hurt, and brokenness.

Our worth is found in God and nothing else.

2. JESUS GIVES US MISSION

Jesus declares, “We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day.”

That calling isn’t reserved for pastors or spiritual “all-stars.” Every believer has been sent to participate in God’s mission.

Moses had limitations. Jeremiah thought he was too young. Abraham thought he was too old. Paul had a terrible past. Yet God used each of them.

God can use your story for His glory.

Rather than holding up our excuses, we’re called to recognize the urgency of the Gospel and use the opportunities God places in front of us.

3. JESUS GIVES US THE WAY TO FOLLOW

Jesus could have healed the man with a word. Instead, He makes mud, puts it on his eyes, and tells a blind man to walk to the Pool of Siloam.

The man doesn’t understand why Jesus chooses to work this way—but he trusts Him enough to obey.

Our stories won’t always make sense either. Sometimes the “why” remains unanswered.

Faith means trusting Jesus with the next step even when we don’t understand the whole story.

SUMMARY / APPLICATION

Jesus gives us VALUE—our identity is found in Him.

Jesus gives us MISSION—our lives and stories can point others toward Him.

Jesus gives us THE WAY TO FOLLOW—trust Him at His Word and take the next step.

The challenge is to make Jesus the center of everything we are and allow Him to use every part of our story for His glory.
