A Tale of Two Houses
1. There is similarity in APPEARANCE…
Jesus compares two builders—both building homes, both investing in something that looked steady from the outside. But…
-
Your Family: What foundation are you building your home on? Discipleship begins at home.
-
Your Flourishing: How do you define “healthy”? A full life isn’t always a firm one.
Don’t just build big—build strong.
2. There is similarity in TESTING…
Storms are the great equalizer. Every life, every house, faces them.
-
Storms happen – Not if but when (v.25, v.27)
-
Storms hurt – God never asks us to ignore the pain (Exodus 2:23–25)
-
Storms highlight – What’s hidden gets revealed. The storm shows your foundation.
The strength of your life is revealed in the storm—not the sunshine.
3. There is a difference in OUTCOMES…
The outcome isn’t determined by the size of the house, but by the strength of the foundation.
The Rock
-
Jesus is the only foundation that saves.
-
Acts 4:11–12 – Salvation is found in no one else.
-
1 Peter 2:4–6 – Christ is the cornerstone; whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame.
The Sand
-
Building on sand is building on self—religion, reputation, comfort, or culture.
-
Hearing Jesus’ words and not doing them is foolishness (v.26).
Build your life on Jesus. He’s the only foundation that holds in eternity.
