Why Every Life Has Value (Even When The World Disagrees)
STORY / CONTEXT
Last week we established that God is the Author and Definer of life.
This week, we apply that truth to a critical issue: the sanctity of human life.
We live in a culture that increasingly calls evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20), and nowhere is that clearer than in how life is valued.
Big Idea:
If God is the Author of life, then all life carries His image, His value, and deserves our protection.
SCRIPTURE FOUNDATION
- Isaiah 5:20
- Mark 1:14–15 → The Kingdom of God has come
- Colossians 1:13–14 → We now belong to a different Kingdom
Truth:
We live here, but we represent another Kingdom—so we must reflect God’s values.
1. A biblical conviction believes every human bears the image of God
Genesis 1:26–27 | Psalm 8:3–9
Every human life has intrinsic value—not because of usefulness, ability, or achievement, but because we are made in God’s image.
- Value is given by God, not earned
- Dignity is universal, not selective
- Every life is worthy of respect and care
“All life is precious… whether a person cures cancer or gets cancer…” – Jared C. Wilson
Implication:
We reject anything that devalues life—racism, sexism, or selective worth.
2. A biblical conviction believes life begins in the womb
Psalm 139:13–16 | Jeremiah 1:4–5
God is personally and intimately involved in life from the very beginning.
- “You knitted me together…”
- “Before I formed you… I knew you…”
Life is not potential—it is present from conception.
Psalm 127:3–5 | Matthew 19:13–15
→ Children are not burdens—they are blessings.
Implication:
If life begins at conception, it changes everything about how we view, protect, and defend it.
3. A biblical conviction believes we must affirm and advocate for life
Because we belong to God’s Kingdom, we don’t stay silent—we respond.
(Roll these out one at a time)
- Represent the Kingdom of God on this issue
- Support and serve pro-life causes
- Foster and adopt children
- Speak in celebration of all life and confront injustice
- Have, raise, and celebrate children as gifts from God
Truth:
It’s not enough to believe the right things—we must live them out.
SUMMARY / APPLICATION
A biblical view of life says:
- Every life has value
- Every life has a beginning designed by God
- Every believer has a responsibility to act
Final Question:
How will you live out a biblical conviction for the sanctity of life?
