Revival Leader Information

Phil Waldrep | Revival Speaker

Phil Waldrep is an author, speaker, and the president, founder, and CEO of Phil Waldrep Ministries, a 501(c)(3) non-profit encouraging thousands each year through Women of Joy, Gridiron Men’s Conference and Celebrators Conference. Phil is a graduate of the University of Alabama and Luther Rice Seminary, where he earned his Master of Arts in Biblical Studies.

In 1984, Phil traveled to Vermont to preach in a small, rural church where he learned there was a need for pastors to have an opportunity to meet together, be taught by other Christian leaders, and be encouraged in their ministries. This trip sparked Phil’s passion for New England and in 1988, he launched the New England Pastor’s Encouragement Retreat — a three-day event to renew and refresh church leaders. Today, over 300 ministry leaders attend one of two retreats held each year.

Phil has served as the chairman of the board of trustees at Northeastern Baptist College and is the recipient of the Robert H. Brindle Church Planting Award and the Alabama Medal of Honor. In 2020, Phil was inducted into the Morgan County Leadership Hall of Fame.

Phil and his wife Debbie have two grown children and five grandchildren. They live in Decatur, Alabama.

Gary Mathena |  Worship Leader

Dr. Gary Mathena became a minister of music when he was only 15 years old. That same year he recorded his first album and published his first song. Since that time Gary has been the minister of music in some of America’s great churches including the 12,000-member First Southern Baptist Church of Del City, OK, for two Southern Baptist Convention presidents, Dr. Bailey Smith and Dr. Tom Elliff; the great Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield, California, where he was for 23 years; and most recently the First Baptist Church of Roanoke, Virginia, where he served as minister of music for almost three years before embarking on a full-time international ministry to educate, edify, equip, and encourage those who lead God’s people in worship.

Gary holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice from Oklahoma Baptist University, a Master of Christian Ministry in Church Music Administration and a Doctor of Christian Ministry in Worship from Southern Baptist School for Biblical Studies, and a Doctor of Worship Studies from Liberty University.

Currently, Gary is a guest lecturer in worship studies and church music administration for the School of Music at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He has an active international teaching ministry in Africa, Russia, Romania, Germany, and Central America. He holds the position of Visiting Professor at Emanuel University of Oradea, Romania, and serves on the Advisory Council for the Institute of Theology and Music at the Bibelseminar in Bonn, Germany. Gary has also served as a trustee for the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention—the largest missionary sending force in the world.

Gary and his wife, Donnita, have two married daughters and eight exceptional grandchildren.
