History was made last week as the Personnel Committee unanimously affirmed the nomination of Paula Vawter to be our first full-time Women’s Minister at Quail Springs Baptist, with her official start date being July 1.
The position was first formally introduced into the long-range plan in 2009. However, due to budgetary constrictions, the position was put on hold and has been led solely by volunteers since that time. Paula has served as interim director since October of 2017.
Quail Springs’ Minister of Education, Jerry Ross, has been an advocate of Women’s Ministry for many years and was quick to comment on the exciting news. “The fact that this dream is finally coming true is a big deal,” Jerry said. “It’s monumental, and the ways that God continues to build our team is further evidence He has great plans ahead for us!”
Senior Pastor, Dr. Stephen Rummage, also affirmed the value this new ministry position adds to QSBC. “Helping women grow in their knowledge of God’s Word and their relationship with God is one of the most crucial things our church can do to reach our area for Christ,” Pastor Rummage explained. “Paula’s love for the Bible is infectious. I believe God is going to use her in great ways in the days to come.”
Under Paula’s leadership, the ministry has already grown tremendously. In the last 21 months, participation has nearly doubled through the expansion of opportunities for women to serve and mature spiritually. In 2018, QSBC Women launched a discipleship ministry called Intentional Friends. Since its inception, over 200 women have and are participating in this ministry, that pairs a younger and older woman together for a 9-month commitment. The heartbeat of this ministry is “Reaching a woman right where she is to help her become the woman God designed her to be.” Within the Intentional Friends Ministry, women are transcending generations and investing in one another through various means of fellowship and studying God’s word.
As she reflected on the ministry’s growth, Paula quoted Psalm 118:23 which says, “This is the Lord’s doing; and it is marvelous in our eyes.” Just as Pastor Rummage said, Paula’s passion for Scripture directly influences her vision for the Women’s Ministry at Quail Springs.
“In today’s culture, there is quite a bit of confusion and controversies surrounding women in general and their place in the body of Christ,” Paula said. “I believe one of the most important things we can do as women is to really know the Word of God.”
She continued by explaining the need for women to be empowered by the Word, constrained by the Word, and shaped by the Word. “Giving God and His Word priority and preeminence in our lives offers us protection and the freedom to mature and blossom into the women God uniquely created us to be.”
Within this Biblical framework, Paula and her leadership team will continue to offer ministry opportunities that challenge women of all ages to grow in their relationships with God and others.
Though we officially welcome Paula to staff, she is no stranger to Quail Springs. She has been a member of QSBC for 30 years and has served in numerous capacities such as leading Equip Classes and working with college and student ministries. For the last two and a half decades, she has also been investing in countless women through discipleship and Women’s Precept Bible studies.
Paula has been married to Brent, the love of her life, since 2007. As we talked about the magnitude of the Women’s Minister position she said, “I am so blessed and grateful to be married to a godly man, who not only supports me in God’s calling on my life, but also shares a similar passion and vision for discipleship and ministry.”
We praise God for this time of change and growth for our church and the surrounding community. It has been a long time coming, and is just the beginning! “We are launching into a new era of ministry,” Jerry said, “one where we are reaching and leading women to be able to fulfill what God has called them and gifted them to do in this place.” We are excited for everyone to join the celebration of this ministry milestone and take the opportunity to welcome Paula officially onboard.
