Two months ago, in September, we shared the story of a QSBC member named Stephen who was living on mission at his workplace. Through his story, we encouraged one another to embrace a more intentional lifestyle called Missional Living. Which simply stated means we are actively living out our faith in everyday activities.
In an effort to inspire a missional mindset, we want to highlight how God is using you, your family or Connect Group to spread the love of Jesus through Missional Living.
This month, we want to share Courtney’s story.
As a single mom of two kids, who also works 60+ hours a week, Courtney’s time is precious. Between taking kids to and from school, prepping meals and attending extracurricular activities, as well as juggling a demanding job and serving at church on Sundays and Wednesdays—her days are full from morning to evening. And yet every month, she (and a small group of women from QSBC) take time to volunteer at a local, faith-based organization called the Jesus House.
Courtney’s commitment to volunteer began four years ago after she spent a brief morning at the Jesus House, which serves men and women who are experiencing homelessness, addiction and mental health issues. From that day on, the Lord placed a burden on her heart for the women there who are trying to get their life back on track.
“Addiction is an epidemic in our state and many of us have experienced the devastating effects through a family member, friend, or loved one,” Courtney shares. “When I volunteer, I have the opportunity to bring the light of Christ to the precious women of the Jesus House.”
Although life is busy for Courtney, she chooses to spend her time in this way because she believes God is planting seeds of hope in each woman’s heart.
“I can just feel God’s presence in the room and I know that the ladies from the Jesus House can as well,” she says. “They have a hard struggle and hopefully having a few hours once a month to laugh, love, and share Christ will bring some joy to their lives.”
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16
Let's be encouraged to live on mission this week, like Courtney. And may we look for meaningful ways to shine God’s light in the darkness… no matter how busy life seems.
