Online Resources for Student Ministry

Tuesday June 2, 2020 Update:

As our city and state continue to take strides in resuming a normal pace of life, we are grateful for all that Lord has done in this season. Here are some bullet points of what we have witnessed and heard of:

  1. Students professed Christ as Savior and Lord
  2.  Students leader others to faith in Jesus
  3.  Students regularly read their Bible, growing in their faith more than ever before
  4.  Our d-group engagement to end the school year was excellent
  5. Family time and devotions have increased and are occurring regularly
  6.  Students and Families feel freedom to say "no" when adding things to the schedule
  7. Many students and families work to help meet community needs in this season.
  8. Students have continued to find unique and creative ways to encourage and share with others.

There are so many other items we could add to this list, but the biggest takeaway from all of this is that God is at work. We believe HIS work will continue through these summer months. Here are just a few of those ways:

 1. Camp Resolve:

We are less than two weeks away from our local camp and we could not be more excited about it. The Lord started putting this camp together before we even knew there would be no Falls Creek. In fact in our Parent Link Facebook Live Event, we mentioned the possibility of a local camp. Little did we know that that is the direction we would be walking. From our speakers, worship, small groups, breakouts, rec time, and late night activities, we are pumped about how the Lord will use all of these aspects to encourage, challenge, convict, and guide teenagers this summer. I know many students and families are making plans for the summer, some already have plans, others have jobs, etc. But we are asking every student to consider being a part of Camp Resolve, much like they would have been a part of Falls Creek. This is our only BIG Event of the summer and we don't want our students and their friends to miss out on it. Please learn more at www.qsbc.org/resolve and register today. To guarantee your t-shirt, we need you to register by June 3rd.

 2. Going Deeper Virtual Camp Options:

 A. Digital Youth Camp -  6th to 12th grade - July 13-17, 2020 - cost is $20 and includes a t-shirt and journal. There are two scheduled tracks for this. There is a morning track or an evening track students can choose. There is also a self-paced track that students can do. This involves 8 main sessions, 8 breakout sessions, and a church group zoom meeting each day with a student staff member. Speakers include Wade Morris, Mike Keahbone, Shane Pruitt, Clayton King, and others.

 B. Student Leadership University - SLU 101 Reimagined - 14 years and older - July 20-22, 2020. Cost is $200. The student staff is currently working to figure out how to scholarship part of this cost for each participant and we will pass that information on as soon as we get it. To fully understand this virtual camp option we ask that you visit the website https://www.slulead.com/slu-101-reimagined-detail/5ebd583e1280b1bdc25d7c84#course-detail so that you can learn what all is involved with this event. There are the elements that will be involved in the experience:

  • The 10 Components of Leadership
  • A Customized SLU Journey Box
  • A Highly Engaging Virtual Platform
  • Rules and Tools of Leadership from World-Class Communicators
  • Worldview Development from Leading Christian Apologists
  • Business Leadership Lessons from Top Level Executives
  • Personality Assessment and Time and Goal Management

YOU CAN REGISTER FOR ONE OF THESE EVENTS AT WWW.QSBC.ORG/RETREATS.

 3. Wednesday Night Worship, Connect Groups, and Sunday Night Fellowships

The student ministry staff will be releasing more information in the next couple of weeks as it relates to student ministry worship on wednesday nights, what our connect groups will look like in July, and when Sunday night fellowships will resume!

Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to serve you and your family each and every week. We love and appreciate you all!

Tuesday May 26, 2020 Update:

This is a very important yet brief update focused on two items:

1. Student Ministry Connect Groups

We understand the difficulty that you are facing getting your students to plug in online for their weekly connect group meeting. We understand they are done with zoom meetings, facetimes, etc. They are craving in person time together. This is why we eliminated most of our online activity except for Connect Groups, because we see it too. They will hardly respond to text messages! BUT, we as a student ministry staff are asking for your help to work with your student to prioritize the sunday night connect group hour. This is the only time we are asking them to log in each week. We are only doing online connect groups for 5 more weeks. HS Students meet on Sundays at 6pm and MS Students meet on Sundays at 7pm. We understand there are no good times to meet during this season, but we are asking you to help your student set aside this time for the next five weeks to stay connected with their groups and leaders! Just so you know, we are giving our leaders and students the month of July off from online groups.

2. Camp Resolve

As you know we are moving forward with a summer camp option, June 15-19. We are excited about this week and believe it has potential to be a strong spiritual week for our students. We are asking that if your student is attending (IN PERSON or ONLINE) that they register at www.qsbc.org/resolve ASAP because we need to order shirts, food, etc. Please know, if you are waiting to register your student a little closer to the event because you are continuing to monitor the Covid-19 situation in light of the state opening back up, we understand that. Please know that if you register your student as an online attendee, we can always move them to an in person attendee on our end, or vice versa. One thing we are asking is students commit to attend all activities all week just like if we were going away to camp. They have a three hour break in the middle of the day for free time to use at their own discretion. We hope that your student will join us online or in person for this incredible week of camp! I believe the Lord could use it in a great way. We do have scholarships available if you or friends need one!

We consider it a great privilege to walk alongside you and your students each and every week. We appreciate you.

Tuesday May 19, 2020 Update:

As many of you became aware, Oklahoma Baptists announced that Falls Creek Summer Camp has been canceled for this summer. For many of us, that was the one thing we hoped would not be canceled this summer. So where do we go from here and what can we expect this summer for QSBC Students. Our student ministry team has been working on numerous contingency plans, and this is the plan they have laid out for you. As we continue to navigate this season we are in, we know that this news may be received with mixed emotions, some being excited while others with reservations. We want you to know that we are working to provide both online and in person options so that all our students can remain engaged with us throughout the summer. We also believe the safety and health of your children is the most important matter, so we will continue to make decisions with that in mind as we plan and prepare for this summer. As with everything in this current season, there is always the chance something is changed, postponed, or canceled. We will work to communicate with you as soon as any changes are made.

We also want to encourage our students to plug in every Sunday night for connect groups. Parents, if you can help encourage your student to participate, that would be huge help. We will only do these online groups in May and June. We will take the month of July off. You can find that meeting information below:

  • Connect Groups
    • HS Connect Groups – Sunday Nights at 6:00pm
    • MS Connect Groups – Sunday Nights at 7:00pm
  • Wednesday Bible Study
    • MS Bible Study – Wednesdays at 4:00pm (30 mins only)

As always, feel free to contact any of the student ministry staff if you have any questions or concerns about this summer plans and activities. We consider it a privilege to serve you and walk alongside you. We love you and are praying for you.

Tuesday May 12th, 2020 Update:

The following information is very important. Today will be our last student ministry briefing video. Starting next week, we will simply move to a short video update that highlights what is happening in the student ministry each week. This week will be our last MS and HS Wednesday Night Bible Study. Starting May 17th, we will be changing our weekly schedule for the summer as it relates to Sunday student connect groups and Wednesday student worship. Here is that information:

  • Connect Groups

o   HS Connect Groups – Sunday Nights at 6:00pm

o   MS Connect Groups – Sunday Nights at 7:00pm

  • Wednesday Bible Study

o   MS Bible Study – Wednesdays at 4:00pm (30 mins only)

o   HS Bible Study – Wednesdays at 4:30pm (30 mins only)

For Sunday Connect Groups, students will receive the Zoom Meeting information from their connect group leaders each week. For Wednesday Bible Study, the student staff will text the students a link each week.

As we continue to stay connected online in this season, the student ministry staff has simplified its weekly schedule to seek to maximize our time with students. We believe it is important that they remain connected to their connect group, so we are asking that your family set aside Sunday evening as a priority for your students to connect with their group.  The Wednesday Bible study is optional and available if students want a midweek connection.

Please take a moment to check out our pre-recorded student ministry briefing.

Tuesday April 21, 2020 Update:

*NOTE TO PARENTS, THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS RELATED TO STUDENT MINISTRY ONLY. THE CHILDREN’S MINISTRY WILL BE ADDRESSING THEIR SUMMER PLANS SOON. THEY ARE CURRENTLY WORKING HARD ON COORDINATING THEIR PLANS AND WILL COMMUNICATE ACCORDINGLY.

As we near the end of April, many decisions are being made for May and June that affect you and your family. Some of you may have become aware of Falls Creek’s decision regarding the first four weeks of June. Here is their statement:

“Leaders with Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center have formed plans to host eight sessions in a condensed “split-week” format beginning Sunday, June 28. Groups previously scheduled to attend a week-long session would instead participate in a three-night, four-day formatted session—Sunday afternoon through Wednesday morning, or Wednesday afternoon through Saturday morning…This split schedule still offers the great preaching, teaching, music and camp activities that students and sponsors have come to know and love,” said Todd Sanders, Falls Creek program director…A final decision regarding July weeks of camp will be made by May 18, 2020.”

Below is a new revised schedule for the split schedule they are proposing:

New Falls Creek 2020 Summer Camp Tentative Schedule

Left side shows the previous schedule. Bold text shows new schedule:

  • Week 1 (June 1-5) is now Session 1 (June 28-July 1)
  • Week 5 (June 29-July 3) is now Session 2 (July 1-July 4)
  • Week 2 (June 8-13) is now Session 3 (July 5-8)
  • Week 6 (July 6-10) is now Session 4 (July 8-11)
  • Week 3 (June 15-19) is now Session 5 (July 12-15)
  • Week 7 (July 13-17) is now Session 6 (July 15-18)
  • Week 4 (June 22-26) is now Session 7 (July 19-22)
  • Week 8 (July 20-24) is now Session 8 (July 22-25)

Let me answer a few questions:

  1. What does this mean for Quail Springs Baptist Church Student Ministry? There are four possibilities we are looking at:
  • Local Camp at QSBC. Remember, the student ministry put a contingency plan into place back in March to potentially host a local camp on the campus of Quail Springs Baptist Church. That plan is still in play, but it is also dependent on the guidelines that our city and state government officials release as it relates to May and June. This camp would run the week of June 15-19, 2020.
  • Falls Creek Mini Session. We rearrange our summer schedule and go to camp July 12-15, 2020. This decision has some variables that the student ministry staff would need to work through. The biggest one is our current schedule of mission trips. We are working with our mission trip host to determine what their plans are and if those trips will still be happening.
  • Virtual Camp. This is not ideal, but it is a very viable option that is being made available to us. It is youth camp designed for you, where you are. It is a raw and relevant FULL CAMP EXPERIENCE. It involves 8 main sessions, 10 breakout sessions and 4 interviews that lead to one full camp experience.
  • No Summer Camp. This is the last thing we want to do. But if we choose to cancel summer camp, we will be working to offer a weekend like event near the beginning of the school
    year.

  1. When will a Summer Camp decision be made?
  • The QSBC Student Ministry staff will make decisions as it relates to camp no later than May 18th. Our target goal is to have a decision f
or you by Sunday May 10th.

  1. What is the status of Super Summer?
  • Considering Falls Creek’s decision, we anticipate that Super Summer 2020 will be canceled. An official announcement will be delivered Thursday, April 23rd. We are currently working on another option for our high school and middle school students that we believe will greatly benefit those who were
    hoping to attend Super Summer.

  1. What is the timeline on mission trip decisions?
  • The mission trips fall in mid to late July. Therefore, our timeline for deciding on each trip will occur no later than May 18th. WE ARE ASKING THAT EVERY STUDENT GOING ON A MISSION TRIP, BRING THEIR PARENT TO THE NEXT MISSION TRIP MEETING ON MAY
    3rd.

  1. What about Senior Sunday?
  • On May 3rd in our worship service, the senior class of 2020 will be honored with a video, special prayer time, and a sermon from Dr. Rummage that will be very applicable to their lives. On May 3rd they will receive gifts from QSBC and the DeGiacomo family delivered to their front porch. Our hope is to host some sort of breakfast/lunch for the senior class and their families this summer. We have tentatively rescheduled it on June 14, 2020, a final
decision will be made by May 18th.

  1. What about Senior Trip?
  • The senior trip is very important to us because we want to be able to send out our seniors the right way. As of right now the YMCA of the Rockies has not decided as it relates to summer activities. We are closely communicating with them about their plans to reopen the campground. We hope to have a
final decision on this by May 18th.

  1. What about summer Sunday night fellowships and Wednesday nights?
  • All these decisions will be made by May 18th once we know what our city and government officials give as new guidelines for May and June.

As always, our student ministry staff continues to work hard to reimagine student ministry in this season. We are prayerful that we will be able to gather back together sooner than later. Our hope is that we can reclaim some of our originally planned summer schedule. But, our number one priority is the health and well-being of students, their families, and others. We want to do our part in loving our neighbor in this season, and that may mean making changes to our plans to ensure the health and well-being of others.

As we walk through this season, know this: Jesus is still at work. We have seen students saved, students leading others to the Lord, students sharing the gospel with their friends, students spending more time in God’s Word than ever before, etc. The work of Jesus Christ did not stop when the world shut down and we are so thankful for this. I believe summer 2020 will be a life changing summer for many students, not because of an event, camp, or activity, but because Jesus gets ahold of them and does what only He can do: Redeem and Transform lives.

Today we drop a pre-recorded Student Ministry Briefing. It highlights some resources for parenting, spiritual growth and development, culture and outreach, and announcements as it relates to students and their families.

Tuesday April 14, 2020 Update:

We hope that you and your family had a wonderful Easter weekend, celebrating our Risen Savior, Jesus Christ.

We, as a student ministry staff, are continuing to connect with each student and family from QSBC. One of the things we will be rolling out soon is a Sunday night Zoom Meeting for Parents. Our student ministry staff will choose a topic and share some information with you, then we will break into some breakout rooms to discuss the topic further. Be on the lookout for more information in the next week.

Remember, that every Tuesday, we send out a video briefing that highlights some resources for parenting, spiritual growth and development, culture and outreach, and announcements as it relates to students and their families.

  1. Culture and OutreachThis week we focus on outreach as we discuss how you can love your neighbor when you are encouraged to practice social distancing and shelter in place. You can find helpful more helpful articles at www.cpyu.org.

Tuesday April 7, 2020 Update:

I want to take a quick minute to thank those of you were able to catch our Parent Link Event on Facebook this past Sunday. I pray that it was an informative, encouraging, and meaningful time for you. Our student ministry team longs for the day when we are able to see you and your family in person and worship our Risen Savior together!

Remember, Our student ministry staff has a goal to contact each of student's families to check on them. You should be hearing from one of our staff members over these next few weeks. We simply are asking three questions: 1. How are you and your family doing? 2. Are there any needs that you or your family might have that we can help with? 3. Can we pray for you and is there any specific you want us to pray for? Our hope and prayer is that we can minister to you and your family in this small way.

Remember, that every Tuesday, we will send out a video briefing that highlights some resources for parenting, spiritual growth and development, culture and outreach, and announcements as it relates to students and their families.

Tuesday, March 31, 2020 Update:

It seems that each passing day brings new information, changes, cancellations, restrictions, etc. It can be overwhelming, discouraging, and exhausting. As a student ministry staff, we hope to be able to encourage you each week through videos, bible studies, social media posts, and personal contact. We pray for you often and pray these touches bless you all.

Our student ministry staff has a goal to contact each of the student's families to check on them. Over the next several weeks you may receive a phone call or text message from us. We simply are asking three questions: 1. How are you and your family doing? 2. Are there any needs that you or your family might have that we can help with? 3. Can we pray for you and is there any specific you want us to pray for? Our hope and prayer is that we can minister to you and your family in this small way.

The student ministry briefing includes resources for parenting, spiritual growth and development, culture and outreach, and announcements as it relates to students and their families.

Wednesday, March 25, 2020 Update:

The Students began a 8 week Bible Study titled Gospel Above All by J.D. Greear. Tonight they were introduced to the big idea of the study: although many other priorities compete for the attention and affection of our hearts our devotion to the gospel should supersede our commitment to any other preference or pursuit. We are providing a follow up study for students to use in the week in between our bible studies. Click here: Student Resources Session 1 Above All

Tuesday, March 24, 2020 Update:

Tuesday, March 17, 2020 Update:

In light of the Coronavirus, much has changed in our lives in the last week. This a challenging time for us all. As a church, we have been committed to doing what we can to best serve you and your family in these times. Based on the President's Coronavirus guidelines, all on campus group activities planned through Sunday March 29 have been canceled and the Quail Athletic Center has been closed.  We will not be gathering on campus for Sunday Worship Services or Connect Groups on Sunday March 22 and 29, and Wednesday March 18 and 25 and April 1st.  We are also canceling other weekly group meetings during the President's 15 day window.  When this 15 day time period is over, we will again evaluate gathering for services and groups, understanding that this season may be extended.

In the meantime, we will be gathering online for Worship Services at 9:30 and 11:00 on Sundays.  Our student ministry staff is eagerly preparing ways for the students and their families to creatively receive resources, teaching, and group connections online. While we hope this time of an adjusted schedule is brief, the staff is also preparing just in case this season is extended. The student ministry staff has made plans to serve students and families in this way for the next eight to ten weeks.

We have also made the following adjustments to our weekly schedule:

Every day – The student ministry will be dropping some type of resource or encouragement every day. On Tuesdays we will release The Student Ministry Briefing which will be a video that features a quick discussion on personal spiritual growth, culture, parenting, and announcements related to our student ministry. ZOOM hangouts will be offered a couple times as a way to connect student ministry staff with students during the week.

Connect Groups – We are encouraging your student’s connect group leaders to connect with them once a week via text message or phone call. We are also encouraging the connect group leaders to connect with their students through ZOOM, an online platform that allows them to join from their phone or computer so they can see each other!

Zoom Instructions: Connect Group Leader

D-Groups – We are encouraging your student’s d-group leaders to connect with them once a week via text message or phone call. We are also encouraging d-group leaders to connect with their students through ZOOM, an online platform that allows them to join from their phone or computer so they can see each other.

Zoom Instructions: D-Group Leader

Wednesday Night Worship – The student ministry staff will host a MS Service every Wednesday at 5:30pm, beginning March 25, 2020. Dylan Bone will be leading this service and will send out a ZOOM link for students to join in. Once they are logged into ZOOM, they will hear a message, and then be split into breakout groups for sermon discussion. The student ministry staff will host a HS Service every Wednesday at 6:30pm beginning March 25, 2020. Jeff DeGiacomo will be leading this service and will send out a ZOOM link for students to join in. Once they are logged into ZOOM, they will hear a message, and then be split into breakout groups for sermon discussion.

The following have been adjusted with the assumption that we will not be able to gather in person for an extended period of time:

Parent Link Dinner – We will be hosting a Parent Link Facebook Live Event on April 5, 2020 at 5:00pm. All you will need to do is join the QSBC Student Ministry Facebook Group. Those that tune in and comment in the comment section will be able to receive the Parent Link Dinner Falls Creek Registration cost of $150. We will NOT be tackling the issue of Teenagers and Mental Health, but we will be discussing summer activities in the student ministry as well as other relevant issues in light of our current context.

Mission Trip Meetings – All of our mission trip teams will continue to meet on March 29th and April 26th. Their Mission Trip Leader will contact them directly with what time they will meet on that day. All meetings will happen through ZOOM.

Senior Sunday – At this moment, Senior Sunday will be affected by the current timeline. Therefore, we are working to do some sort of recognition in our online services May 3rd, but we are rescheduling Senior Sunday to Sunday June 14, 2020. This is the Sunday right before Falls Creek, our hope is that many of our students will be in town and we can celebrate it on this day! We are still asking that Seniors turn in all of their paperwork and pictures by Sunday April 5, 2020.

Other Student Ministry Events – The Father/Daughter Event, The 5k, Caleb Freeman Event, April and May Student Ministry Sunday Night Fellowships, and The End of School Event have been canceled.
