In 2010, Quail Springs Baptist Church celebrated its 60th year. Established in 1950 as Nichols Hills Baptist Church, we began with a charter membership of 113 people. During the following years, the congregation embarked through several building programs and continued its emphasis on Sunday school and the Wednesday evening fellowship and services.
With no further room for expansion on its site on Grand Boulevard, the church moved location to a tract of land on North May Avenue in 1982. The church continued to grow in fellowship, unity and service. Fast-forward to today, and the church is undergoing a growth period once again. To accommodate more people, a building project was launched called A Work of Heart. The construction was completed in April of 2008, which expanded our facilities for pre-school and elementary age children, led to a new youth building, and more.
The Gathering
Also in 2010, the church family voted unanimously to activate Building Construction and Building Finance Committees to plan Phase Two construction. The committees prayed, planned and worked in the months that followed, and in the Summer of 2010 presented a set of recommendations, approved by the congregation, that included plans to build more space and conduct a capital campaign in early 2011.
We believe our next phase of construction should include an expanded fellowship hall, common areas, a main entry point for the building and education space in order to move toward fulfilling our commitment to fully develop our present campus. The scope of the project will be determined by the results of our capital campaign. The project costs will not exceed a combination of the campaign pledges and the $7 million debt ceiling approved by the church in the summer of 2010. Our committees will bring a specific recommendation for congregational vote in the Spring of 2011 with construction to follow.
These additions will work toward fulfilling our commitment to fully develop our present campus. We have a pressing need to improve the flow of people between services by improving and expanding our hallways and entry points. Fellowship is a vital aspect of our mission, thus the fellowship hall is a key ministry center. Because Sunday school small groups sustain the fellowship and ministry of QSBC, we must give priority to facilitating future growth in that area.
We are prayerful that the Lord will work mightily through The Gathering campaign, using it to help us as a church gather together, build up and send out His people.
QSBC Mission Statement
Look what God is doing! He binds us together in fellowship; He brings us together for worship; He builds us up for service; He sends us out with the Good News of Jesus. Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your Name give glory!
